The HGV Road User Levy will come into operation on 1 April 2014. It is a time-based charge that must be paid by both UK and foreign operators of vehicles in excess of 12 tonnes gvw.

Fixed penalty notices for HGV Road User Levy Offences

From 1 April 2014, HGV operators who fail to pay the HGV Road User Levy will face a fixed penalty of £300. Any other fixed penalty offence other than parking will incur a £50 penalty, and fixed penalty parking offences will be £30.

Domestic log books

The Government has announced that it will soon be introducing legislation so that the log book will no longer be a mandatory requirement. Operators will still have to ensure that records are kept of a driver’s duty, driving and rest, etc but it will be up to the operator as to what form these records take.

Digital tachograph vehicle unit downloads

Following an industry-wide consultation in 2013, the Government has announced that it will be introducing legislation to extend the maximum interval between digital tachograph downloads from 56 to 90 days.
