The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) have updated their Substances of Concern in Products, SCIP database to version 2.

ECHA have announced that soon users will be able to search the database by SCIP number, and that from December 2021 they will be processing data submitted in simplified SCIP notifications (SSNs).

ECHA state that: “This will allow users to search using SCIP numbers that are referencing to other notifications. Due to the high volume, processing this data might take some time. The new version also has many other improvements related, for example, to the search functionalities.”

Around 6 000 companies have completed over four million article notifications. The legal obligation to make notifications came into force on 5 January 2021 and is based on the EU Waste Framework Directive as revised in 2018. It requires companies that have articles on the EU market that contain more than 0.1 % weight by weight of SVHCs to declare them.
