The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has published a new guide the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009 — Inspection of transport security requirements.

The ONR states “this guide has been prepared as an aid to inspection activities carried out by ONR inspectors and to provide guidance to inspectors whilst inspecting the security requirements of a duty holder in relation to the transport of Class 7 dangerous goods”.

The document can be found on the ONR website.

The ONR has also opened a consultation on draft guidance. The guidance is non-statutory but ONR believes it will be a useful tool to inform and assist duty holders involved in the transport of Class 7 goods (radioactive material), to comply with the amended requirements of CDG.

The amendments to the CDG Regulations have been made to implement the Euratom Basic Safety Standards Directive 2013 requirements for emergency preparedness and response, and the notification of certain incidents, when transporting Class 7 goods (radioactive material). The amendments to the CDG Regulations came into force on 21 April 2019 there is a 12-month implementation period in relation to the requirements for Class 7 goods (radioactive material).

The consultation is open from 7 June 2019 to 19 July 2019.

More information and the consultation can be found on the ONR website.
