The possession of nitrous oxide is now illegal following a ban that came into force on 8 November 2023.
Nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas”, is now a controlled Class C drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
Nitrous oxide is known to cause serious damage to the health and livelihood of the user (when misused). Repeat serious users face up to two years in prison and dealers up to 14 years.
