From Sunday 21 March, all haulier processing operations, including Covid testing for hauliers, will be suspended at Manston Airport. If heading to the Port of Dover or Eurotunnel, drivers will be directed straight onto the M20.

Inland Border Facility checks will continue to be processed by Ashford Sevington or one of the other sites across the country. Details of these can be found — here.

Inland border facilities are UK Government sites, operational since 1 January 2021, where customs and document checks can take place away from port locations.

There is, for example, one in Appleton Thorn, Warrington, within a cluster of commercial units just over a mile from the Lymm Interchange (Junction 20) of the M6.

Another can be found at Car Park 6 of Birmingham Airport, located close to Junction 6 of the M42 Motorway, from where there are signs towards the site. It can be accessed from the A45 (Coventry Road) and Jetstream Road.

These sites include parking areas for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and other vehicles as well as security measures and facilities to enable the checking of vehicles and goods entering and exiting the site.

Issuing its latest warning, the Department for Transport (DfT) reminded hauliers that they are strongly encouraged to get a negative Covid-19 test, to use the Check an HGV is Ready to Cross the Border service and to get a valid Kent Access Permit (KAP) before arriving in Kent to minimise delays.

The Check an HGV service is available at www.gov.uk/check-hgv-border.
