London Councils is suspending enforcement of the London Lorry Control Scheme with immediate effect to help the freight and logistics industry cope with increasing pressures and demands from the rapidly developing situation with COVID-19.

The decision was made in response to freight industry concerns and Government calls on local authorities to lift night-time restrictions on deliveries. See last week’s story ‘Government extends supermarket delivery drivers’ hours’.

“If you do plan to change your delivery routes and schedules in light of the suspension,” London Councils said, “please do take care to ensure the routes you use are suitable for your vehicle(s) avoiding narrow streets and low bridges.”

Drivers are also urged to follow retiming deliveries best practice guidance and the Code of Practice issued by Transport for London (TfL) to minimise disruption to London’s residents.
