The Government is urging building firms to sign up for TrustMark accreditation in drive to deliver its green homes scheme.
In July, the Chancellor announced £2 billion of support through the Green Homes Grant (GHG) which it says will save households money, cut carbon, and create green jobs.
Up to £1.5 billion of support will be delivered through energy efficiency vouchers and up to £500 million of support will be allocated to English Local Authority (LA) delivery partners, through the Local Authority Delivery (LAD) scheme.
To join the government-backed programme, builders, plumbers, electricians, and other tradespeople across England will need TrustMark accreditation.
TrustMark is a quality assurance scheme designed to ensure high standards and consumer protection. Only approved and accredited installers can be commissioned to carry out the grant-funded improvements.
Launching the scheme, Business and Energy Secretary Alok Sharma, said the green homes programme has the potential to create new work for the building and trades industry.
“Our TrustMark scheme will guarantee that building work is completed to a high standard by accredited tradespeople, ensuring consumers are fully protected.”
The Green Homes Grants will give homeowners and social/private landlords, vouchers to install insulation, air or ground-source heat pumps and solar thermal systems. Householders can also use vouchers for other energy saving measures including double or triple glazing/secondary glazing, when replacing single glazing, energy efficient doors and heating controls.
Chief Executive of the Federation of Master Builders, Brian Berry, described the scheme as a “significant boost for the building industry as it recovers from the impact of COVID-19.”
Households will be offered a list of approved TrustMark and MCS registered tradespeople in their local area to carry out the work. Once the works are agreed, vouchers will start to be issued from the end of September so work can commence.
