Early Years Scotland has launched a campaign to ensure that every child in Scotland hears a story every day of their lives from birth through childhood.

The national campaign, Every Day's a Story Day, highlights the belief that from the very earliest days of a child's life, hearing, seeing, watching and telling stories can have a powerful and long lasting positive influence.

The campaign promotes using stories to support children to:

  • have an equal and excellent start in life

  • build strong and supportive relationships

  • enrich and enhance language and literacy

  • develop thinking and problem-solving skills

  • foster a love of books and stories from the earliest years

  • step into new worlds and other cultures.

Early Years Scotland is calling on children, parents, carers and staff in all early years settings, primary schools, colleges and universities to pledge support by signing up to the campaign and choosing to be an:

  • EYS Story Star – children who love stories

  • EYS Story Setting – all settings that pledge to ensure that children have a story every day

  • EYS Story Supporter – Parents/carers who want their child to hear a story every single day.

In return for pledging support everyone will receive a personalised certificate and they will also be displayed on a Story Scroll.

The campaign is being supported by a growing list of well-known Story Champions, who share a strong belief in the value of story telling.

Further information on signing up to the campaign is available here.
