Following a consultation on the subject last year (see Have your say on driver conduct), Traffic Commissioners have decided to start publishing the outcomes of driver conduct hearings online.
Publishing this information will, the Commissioners suggest, make it easier for transport operators to find out if a driver has been subject to regulatory action.
This will help them to ensure that they do not use drivers who have not declared any action taken by a Commissioner against their vocational entitlement to their employers.
To ensure that the correct person is identified, the reports (in the form of an Excel spreadsheet) will include the date and decision of the hearing, the driver's name and year of birth, and the first part of their postcode.
It also shows whether the driver is entitled to drive large goods vehicles (LGVs) or passenger carrying vehicles (PCVs), or both.
The Traffic Commissioners stress that they have ensured compliance with data protection principles when publishing this information. The decision to do so will be formalised by changes to the Statutory Document relating to Vocational Driver Conduct.
The regulatory decisions available at www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulatory-decisions-made-about-the-conduct-of-professional-drivers, include: warnings; revocations; suspensions; refusals; extended disqualifications; and grants of entitlement.
