This is a range of techniques to calm you down in stressful situations. The techniques are easy to learn and very effective. You do need to think about which is the most appropriate in any given situation. For example, avoid dropping into your fantasy world in the midst of a complex and important negotiation.
Deep breathing helps you to relax and regain control at difficult moments.
Stand or sit in a relaxed upright position, head up, facing straight ahead.
Take four or five seconds to breathe in slowly — fill your lungs.
Hold for moment.
Take longer — five or six seconds — to breathe out slowly.
Repeat it several times.
