By the end of the session the trainee will be able to:

  • identify the parts of the body at risk

  • state how high levels of vibration can result in harm

  • identify the main health effects from exposure to high levels of vibration.

Hand–Arm Vibration

Explain that hand–arm vibration is a form of vibration that is transmitted to the hands and arms by vibrating equipment. Hand–arm vibration is a widespread hazard for employees in many industries and occupations.

Ask the group to identify equipment used in the organisation that may pose a risk of hand–arm vibration

Ask the group what pieces of equipment they think could cause hand–arm vibration and record the results on a flipchart.
