Although there is at present no legislation dealing specifically with stress, there are various pieces of legislation that may be used to bring a case against an employer.
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 places a duty on employers to ensure, “so far as is reasonably practicable”, the health, safety and welfare of all employees.
The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 set out minimum standards (eg lighting and rest facilities) for the physical working environment.
