Introduction

Slips, trips and falls (on the same level as opposed to falls from height) are a common cause of injury at work. The HSE say that 20% of over-three-day injuries to employees reported under RIDDOR relate to slips, trips and falls. It should be remembered that many minor accidents do not require RIDDOR reporting.

Slips, trips and falls are sometimes seen as comparatively trivial incidents but this is not the case. The HSE say that, on average, 2 fatalities a year arise from these causes (slips, trips and falls on the same level).
