  • Ask the participants to define coaching. One definition is “helping a colleague on-the-job to solve a problem or learn to do a new task”. Coaching is an important part of the manager’s role. It is normally a planned activity to help achieve defined learning objectives but it can be impromptu and informal. It can be incorporated into a development plan following appraisal.
