Introduction

Fire is an important hazard in all workplaces as well as in the home and is responsible for many deaths and injuries each year. Such deaths and injuries can be avoided by understanding how fires start and by the application of simple precautions to prevent such fires from starting.

Should a fire start, it is important that adequate emergency procedures are in place to ensure safe evacuation of staff and other personnel. Such procedures must be planned and emphasised.
