This session should be modified to suit the organisation’s particular circumstances.
Where workers handle few substances, the session can concentrate on the existing control systems. Reference must be made to any monitoring and health surveillance systems used in the organisation.
If possible the trainer should use examples from the actual workplace. Referring to a familiar substance or work method gives trainees a better understanding of the subject.
By the end of the session the trainee should understand:
the meaning of hazard and risk
the need for risk assessment
possible control options
the need for monitoring and health surveillance.
