Health and safety law places duties on employers to provide a safe place of work and safe systems of work. There are also duties placed on the self-employed and employees themselves (these were modified for the self-employed from 1 October 2015, but do not affect high risk work such as confined spaces work). Entry into confined spaces is potentially one of the most hazardous activities that can be undertaken. Where accidents do occur, they often result in death or life changing injuries.
