This activity takes the form of a series of mini case studies, illustrating examples of the wide range of problems with which employers may be faced when dealing with cases of long-term sickness absence. Each case can be used for either of the following.

  • Immediate group discussion in plenary.

  • Initial consideration, prior to plenary discussion:

    • individually

    • in pairs

    • in syndicate groups.

Since some of the “answers” are quite complex, you may wish to use prompts or follow up questions in the course of the discussions in order to draw suggestions out of the delegates.
