The Working Time Regulations (as amended) came into force in the UK in 1998. Drivers of transport services regulated by UK Domestic Drivers Hours and Occasional Drivers are subject to parts of the Working Time Regulations 1998, instead of the Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations 2005. These parts are:
weekly working time, which must not exceed an average of 48 hours per week over the reference period (although individuals can ‘opt out’ of this requirement if they want to)
an entitlement to 5.6 weeks’ paid annual leave
health checks for night workers
an entitlement to adequate rest.
