Treatment and disposal options are needed to deal with residual wastes which cannot be recycled, reused or recovered. The well-established waste disposal options are landfill and incineration. Newer technologies, eg pyrolysis and anaerobic digestion, are coming on stream to supplement these. Disposal to sewer may be an option for pre-treated liquid wastes.

This topic advises on the requirements, options and processes for dealing with residual waste. See Recycling for guidance on dealing with recyclable wastes.
