Updated: 22 november 2021
Since 15 November 2021 the requirement to pass the category C test on a rigid vehicle alone before taking the separate category E test to tow a trailer or drive an articulated vehicle has been removed, partially returning to the situation that existed in the UK before 1990. Drivers may instead now progress directly from a category B licence to take the C+E test if they wish to, without needing to pass the category C test first. The same rule applies to category C1/C1+E.
