Primary care employers have a responsibility to provide a safe environment for their staff and to protect them, as far as is reasonable, from violence and aggression at work. No member of staff should be expected to endure abuse or suffer fear from physical attack or threat as part of their job.

As well as physical harm from assault, violence at work can lead to stress, depression, poor performance, reduced morale and increased staff sickness.

This topic covers how to reduce the risks of violent incidents and what to do if one should occur. Related information can be found in the topic on Security.
