All members of the school community have a right to expect that their school is a safe place in which to work and learn. Schools need to assess the risks of various types of abuse and threatening behaviour, consulting with staff where appropriate, and to put in place suitable preventive strategies and security measures.

Schools also have a duty to work with others in protecting their pupils from the dangers of knife crime and gang violence.
