This policy shows how this care service exercises its duty to care to keep its staff safe from the abusive behaviour and risks of being harmed by service users and “third parties” in the course of their work. “Third parties” in a domiciliary service context will usually be partners, relatives and friends of service users, and possibly visiting professionals from other agencies also involved in a service user’s care and support. There are separate policies and procedures for addressing abuse to and from colleague, which is usually treated as misconduct and addressed through the service’s disciplinary procedures.
