Axle spread is the distance measured in metres between the first and last axles of the vehicle (for articulated vehicles the distance measured is from the king-pin to the centre of the last axle of the semi-trailer) and the authorised weight is the number equal to the product of the axle spread and a weight factor (from Table 1 in Maximum Authorised Weights for Vehicles), rounded up to the nearest 10kg, providing that number is less than the maximum authorised weight shown in Table 2 as appropriate.
