In order to reduce traffic accidents and deaths and injuries resulting from traffic accidents, road vehicles must meet certain safety standards relating to lighting. In particular these standards relate to providing adequate illumination of the roadway and enhancing the visibility of motor vehicles on public roads so that their presence is perceived and their signals understood, both in daylight and in darkness or other conditions of reduced visibility.
This topic covers the requirements for the fitting and use of lights and retro-reflective devices to all vehicles as specified under the Road Traffic Act, the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations and subsequent amendments.
