Motor vehicles first used before 1 April 1986 and trailers manufactured before 1 October 1985 must have one lamp fitted on each side and visible from the front. Lamps must be not more than 510mm from the side of the vehicle and not more than 2300mm above the ground. There is no minimum height.
Motor vehicles first used from 1 April 1986 must have front position lamps fitted not more than 400mm from the side of the vehicle and not more than 1500mm above the ground, or 2100mm if the structure of the vehicle precludes this.
