Following the June 2016 UK referendum vote to leave the EU and subsequent government invocation of Article 50 in March 2017, the UK formally left the EU on 31 January 2020. During the transition period up to 31 December 2020, the EU and UK negotiated the terms of a post-Brexit trading relationship which has now been agreed.

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) recently announced that the UK’s independent chemicals regulatory framework starts on 1 January 2021. Anyone making, selling or distributing chemicals in the UK and the EU needs to follow UK REACH and EU REACH rules.
