Summary

It is vital in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) that each child is responded to uniquely, especially at times of change and transition. There are lots of transitions that can take place in a young child’s life, and starting in childcare is a significant one. Children enter an unfamiliar environment. They are looked after by people who are not their parents or main carers. They are in a new social situation.

Parents play a key role in supporting their child. The EYFS key person will also play a central role. Transition planning together will support the child, family and setting.
