It is vital that practitioners see the transition to Key Stage 1 as a process that happens over a period of time, usually the summer and autumn terms, rather than an event that takes place on the first day of term in September.
Parents play a key role in the process, supporting their child and the school with the transition. They therefore need to be involved and informed of what is happening regularly.
Transition plans will need to be evaluated each year with input from all involved.
