In order to comply with the European Works Council Directive (2009/38/EC), many multinational organisations decided to keep employees informed and to consult with them on activities in the UK and in Europe by establishing European Works Councils (EWCs). With some minor rule changes, these have remained an option, despite the UK having left the European Union.
