This policy is intended for employers who allow their employees to volunteer their time to undertake voluntary work elsewhere on a regular or occasional basis. It does not cover the use of volunteers within an organisation. Neither does it cover the right of employees to request unpaid time off to undertake certain public duties such as being on the local council or acting as a magistrate (though employers should have a policy for dealing with such requests).
