• Exercise care when dismissing an employee.

  • Have an established fair disciplinary procedure in place, which conforms with the recommendations contained in the Acas Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures.

  • Ensure that every employee’s written statement of particulars refers to details of the employer’s disciplinary rules and procedures (eg in the staff handbook).

  • Provide a non-exhaustive list of examples of behaviour which will be regarded as gross misconduct.

  • Adhere to the Acas Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures when carrying out disciplinary procedures.
