• Decide whether to pay occupational sick pay and whether to apply it to all employees.

  • Ensure employees and managers are familiar with the organisation’scare service’s policy and procedure on notification of sickness absence and evidence of sickness.

  • Ensure that employees and managers know the qualifying conditions for statutory and/or occupational sick pay.

  • Ensure that employees know the self-certification procedure and when a fit note is required.

  • Where a fit note states that an employee may be fit for work if certain changes are made, decide in conjunction with the employee whether it is possible to accommodate the changes to enable the employee to undertake some work.
