“Nuisance” refers to the causing of discomfort by one person or entity to another.

Statutory nuisance is defined under Part III of the Environmental Protection Act (EPA) 1990 to include, among other things, vermin, smoke, dust, smells, rubbish, animals and noise which causes a nuisance. Action can be taken by an individual or a local authority to “abate” the nuisance.
