Summary

How a care home promotes the social lives of its residents should be clearly stated in the information provided to prospective and current residents. Care home managers should then have a range of policies and procedures on, such as visitors, pets and social activities to promote fulfilling social lives of its service users.

However, care home managers should not try to organise service users’ social lives for them. Instead, they and their staff should help and support each person to develop social activities and relationships that meet their individual needs.
