A general health and safety inspection should be carried out in a step-by-step manner with the common objective, ie in order to ensure:

  • safe access, egress and freedom from obstructions of passages and walkways, particularly where work areas straddle passages and walkways

  • the layout of the work minimises lifting, collisions and overcrowding and prevents excessive movements such as stretching and twisting during work

  • suitable layout and positioning of workstations, particularly those involving display screen equipment
