This topic covers the statutory frameworks on the safeguarding of vulnerable adults from abuse or harm, in line with the Care Act 2014 (s.42) and the Fundamental Standards that are part of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

Wales safeguarding policies are rooted in the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014) and applied to care services through the Regulated Services (Service Providers and Responsible Individuals) (Wales) Regulations 2017. (See Regulations 26–31.)

Scotland adult protection policies are based on the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 and applied to care service through the national health and care standards, My Support, My Life.

There is also new (February 2021) safeguarding guidance for care homes (NG189) from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), which is referred to in the safeguarding topics, and which is relevant to community care services pending any separate guidance.
