Road Traffic Offences and Penalties

Offences, Levels of Fine or Sentence

The scale of fines which sets the level of maximum fine (Level 5) has been extended from £5000 to an unlimited amount.

Disqualification in Other Countries

If a driver with a UK licence commits an offence in the UK for which they are disqualified from driving by the UK authorities the driver may not drive in any EU state.

Offences committed in the EU, AETR and EEA countries

Following Brexit negotiations, the DVSA are continuing to make available the details of registered keepers, and other information pertaining to a vehicle committing a road traffic offence, to the authorities in an EU Member State where an offence has been committed.
