Where a wheelchair space on a regulated PSV is for wheelchairs facing backwards, it must be fitted with a backrest and supports to restrict lateral movement.
Backrests
The bottom edge of a backrest must be at a height between 350mm and 480mm from the floor of the wheelchair space
The top edge of a backrest must be at a height of not less than 1300mm from the floor of the wheelchair space.
A backrest must have a width of:
between 270mm and 420mm up to a height of 830mm from the floor of the wheelchair space
between 270mm and 300mm at heights exceeding 830mm from the floor of the wheelchair space.
