Public Health

Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of the population, whether that is at a national, regional or community level.

Public Health England (established on 1 April 2013) carries out the public health roles on a national level. The health protection functions will be taken over by the UK Health Security Agency in October 2021. On a local level, public health departments are located in the local authority.
