Summary

A pressure system is a closed system that has an internal pressure which is substantially different to atmospheric pressure. Where plant or equipment carries a compressible fluid under pressure, any breach in the system allowing the fluid to escape suddenly can cause a serious risk of injury or death.

Employers should always consider the necessary written scheme of examination, action in case of imminent danger, operation and maintenance of vessels, keeping of records and the precautions that should be taken to prevent over-pressurisation of vessels. This topic contains information about how to operate, examine and maintain pressure systems.
