The UK left the EU on 31 January 2020 but all arrangements with respect to the single market and customs union in place at that date continue until the end of the year. Should no new agreement be reached before that date, trade will then continue on the basis of a number of long-standing international agreements outside the control of the European Commission. Operating under these circumstances will require hauliers and consignors to comply with a number of conditions not applicable to EU members.
