The Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) regime controls pollution from a number of industrial activities in the UK. The UK Pollution Prevention and Control Regulations 2000 were introduced under s.2 of the Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999, and implemented the European Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Directive (96/61/EC). The directive has since been replaced with Directive 2008/1/EC on integrated pollution prevention and control which is implemented by the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 (as amended).
