This topic reviews the plating scheme which ensures goods vehicles are fitted with a plate showing the gross and axle weights at which they may operate on roads in Great Britain.
This scheme exists in the interests of public safety, whereby it is a legal requirement that goods vehicles have limits set on their maximum operating weights.
The requirement is also provided for under the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Part II) and detailed in the Goods Vehicles (Plating and Testing) Regulations 1988 as amended.
