At times you may be faced with an employee who is struggling to meet standards of work performance that you regard as satisfactory. This should be dealt with as a matter of capability. If the employee is not able to fulfil their contract because of ill-health, this will also be a capability matter. You should take a sympathetic and positive approach to such employees and work with them to identify the areas where they are failing to meet satisfactory standards, how they can improve and what support they need.
