This topic covers the importance of having a pay policy in order to recruit and retain the right level of staffing.
Pay policies must not discriminate on grounds of gender, race or age. The Equality Act 2010 sets out legal requirements as regards equality of pay.
Since 1 April 2016, workers aged 25 and over must be paid at least the National Living Wage (NLW).
From 1 April 2019, the NLW is set at £8.21 per hour.
The National Minimum Wage (NMW) applies to workers under the age of 25 from 1 April 2016 onwards, and to all workers prior to that date.
