Fathers are entitled to take paid paternity leave of either one or two weeks to care for their new baby. Paternity leave remains available despite the introduction of the shared parental leave provisions.

Paternity leave is also available to adoptive fathers and people in a same-sex relationship, providing the qualifying criteria are met.

Fathers and others in an enduring relationship have the right to take time off work to accompany their pregnant wife/partner to antenatal appointments.

The right to additional paternity leave and pay was removed on 5 April 2015.
