The right to statutory paternity leave applies to employees only — workers and the self-employed are excluded. Police officers are excluded from the statutory right to take paternity leave. Police staff do qualify for paternity leave as employees. Individual force policies may make certain provisions for police officers with regard to paternity leave.
There is a maximum two-week period of paternity leave available to eligible employees.
