Part-time Workers (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2000 (“The Regulations”) came into force on 1 July 2000 and transpose requirements of the Part-time Work Directive (97/81/EC) into UK law.

The Regulations cover part-time employees and apprentices and apply to businesses of any size, but do not apply to a self-employed person. Under the Regulations, part-time workers are entitled to the same terms and conditions, pro-rated (ie in proportion to the hours worked), as comparable full-time workers (unless the difference can be objectively justified).
